The
tale in the preceding paragraph (the storekeeper's wife)
shows that sometimes, in spite of our desire to be "good
natured" and despite our attempts to do what we
believe is the appropriate thing to do, we may operate
outside of who we believe we are. Despite our instinct
to "do the right thing," our mode of behavior
may produce a distinctly different result. The unintended
result will be that we may offend someone by sending
mixed messages...
